Born from a passion for hard work and testing limits, a love of place—Russian River Valley—and enthusiasm for all things wine, Davis Bynum wines are a living legacy to their namesake—a true pioneer and champion of the Russian River Valley. Drawing on our 50 years of experience capturing the essence of the Russian River Valley, we craft award-winning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from River West Vineyard that tell the story of the land we love.

This passion for the land is at the core of winemaker Greg Morthole’s “Let the Land Speak” approach to winemaking. His intentionality and imagination continue the quality-driven approach of Davis Bynum and the commitment to the pursuit of excellence, quality, and consistency in all that we do. Virginia's Block
Sauvignon Blanc

Highlights

Deep in the heart of the Russian River Valley, we have a five acre gem of Sauvignon Blanc. As a tribute to Davis Bynum’s second love, we named the five acres Virginia’s Block. Pruned and trained to open up the canopy to allow sunlight, this fruit turns golden through harvest as the flavors become beautifully mature.

Terroir

The vines are planted in east-west rows in shallow gravelly Huichica loam and pruned to maximize sunlight exposure. We like to highlight the ripe fruit characteristics of Virginia’s Block while maintaining the acidity to craft a wine that shows the very best characteristics of the fruit.

Terroir

Our estate River West Vineyard is located in the heart of the Russian River Valley on Westside Road, known by locals as the “Rodeo Drive” of this renowned AVA. With a rich variety of well-draining soils in each block, this vineyard highlights the diversity of the Russian River Valley and how the soil, sun and fog work together to yield some of the very best wines in the world.

Terroir

The Russian River Valley, renowned as one of the best winegrowing regions in the world, is ideal for growing cool-loving Pinot Noir. The marine layer blankets the valley in the mornings and late evenings, allowing for a balance of long warm days and cool evenings, creating the perfect environment for growing the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Sourced from two iconic Dutton Ranches in the cooler-climate Green Valley neighborhood of the Russian River Valley, this wine blends the darker-fruited and spicy Dijon clones with lighter floral Dijon clones, resulting in a wine with nuance and rich character.

Terroir

Our grapes are picked riper for more richness and the wine opens with orange blossom aromas and flavors of peach, ripe citrus, and passionfruit with a bright, fresh acidity.

The wine has layers of complexity with hints of vanilla and creaminess in the midpalate from neutral oak and aging sur lie.
