Backbone Vineyard

Acquired from the Tesauro family and planted in 1998. 62.4 acres. Terrain is nearly level undulating and hummocky, with moderately well drained Huichica soils, consisting of an acidic loam underlain by a clay subsoil, with a strongly cemented hardpan at approximately 12 to 18 inches down.

Block #1 planted to pinot noir, clone 2A (Wadenswil) on 101-14 rootstock, 6 x 10 spacing, N-S row orientation, 20 acres.

Block #2 planted to pinot noir, clone 115 on 101-14 rootstock, 6 x 10 spacing, N-S row orientation, 20 acres.

Block #3 planted to pinot noir, clone Pommard on 101-14 rootstock, 6 x 10 spacing, N-S row orientation, 12.3 acres.

Block #4 planted to pinot noir, clone 23 (Mariafeld) on 101-14 rootstock, 6 x 10 spacing, N-S row orientation, 5 acres.

Block #5 planted to pinot noir, clone 113 on 101-14 rootstock, 6 x 10 spacing, N-S row orientation, 5.1 acres.

Crinella Ranch

Acquired in 1974 from the Crinella family. 55 acres. Terrain is nearly level but slopes toward the north-east, with moderately well drained Huichica soils, consisting of an acidic loam underlain by a clay subsoil, with a strongly cemented hardpan at approximately 18 to 22 inches down.

Block #1 planted to pinot noir on 101-14 rootstock, 5 x 8 spacing , E-W row orientation: 10.8 acres clone 114, 10.5 acres clone 777, 11.1 acres clone 115. Planted in 2002.

Block #2 planted to chardonnay, 6 x 10 spacing. 2.5 acres clone 4 on 140R, 7.9 acres clone 4 on 110R, 2.7 acres clone 15 on 1103P, 2.9 acres clone Spring Mountain on 110R, 2.8 acres clone 76 on 1103P, 2.8 acres clone Rued on 1103P. Planted in 1998.

Garfield Ranch

Acquired by Rodney Strong in 1972 from the Garfield family. 76.7 acres. Terrain is nearly level undulating and hummocky, with moderately well drained Huichica soils, consisting of an acidic loam underlain by a clay subsoil, with a strongly cemented hardpan at approximately 20 to 26 inches down.

Block #1 planted to sauvignon blanc clone 1 on 101-14 rootstock, 6 x 10 spacing, E-W row orientation, 29.7 acres. Planted in 1998.\

Block #2 planted to chardonnay, 6 x 10 spacing. 17.4 acres clone 15 on 110R rootstock, 18 acres clone 76 on 110R rootstock. Planted in 1997.

Block #3 planted to pinot noir clone 667 on 101-14 rootstock, 6 x 10 spacing, 11.6 acres. Planted in 1998, grafted over in 2006.
